This new 78,642 square foot project is a three-story, modern library with special features that will inspire learning at all ages. Scheduled to finish by summer, 2019, this state of the art facility is situated on 7.10 acres north of Andrews Park in Norman, Oklahoma. The facility features a market place, reading nooks, study spaces, conference rooms, and state of the art hearing loops for the hearing impaired. We at Cedar Creek are very proud to be part of the design team for a site that is expected to be an essential hub for the community.
The exterior features clerestory roofs with a façade of glazed curtain wall, meal panels, roman brick, and stucco along with an outdoor reading grove and gardens. This project is targeting LEED Gold status and will have a green roof and be conditioned using a geothermal field drilled under the future parking lot.
The design of the site included a 388,987-gallon underground storm detention system, natural bio-swales for water filtration capturing of pollutants, 96 geothermal wells drilled beneath the south parking lot, each reading 495’ deep. Gardens include a Geology Garden, Reading, Grove, Canyon Garden, and a Plaza with Power Hook-ups for Community Events. A Green roof on the South Low Roof will consist of Pre-Grown Perennials chosen to provide a Variety of Color and General Hardiness.
Cedar Creek worked with the city to design the relocation of the Acres – James Garner intersection as part of the library development. This relocation included natural bio-swales boulevard design on James Garner, extensive utility relocations and improvements, railroad quite zone improvements, traffic study and relocation of Legacy Trail to connect to future library. We look forward to the completed construction of the library and street project in 2019.
